The CanConquer program, led by Kylie Moffitt, is pioneering oncology exercise rehabilitation to counter the debilitating side effects of cancer treatments. Beyond medical care, the program focuses on enhancing the quality of life during and after treatment, addressing issues like muscle loss, cardiovascular fitness, bone density, and fatigue.
We aim to bolster patients' health and strength, arming them to face treatment more robustly. Gentle yet purposeful exercises hold the power to maintain mobility and elevate energy levels.
Evidence-Backed Benefits
Numerous research studies validate the extensive advantages of integrating physical activity into cancer treatment, touching upon physical, mental, and social aspects of well-being.
Exercise enhances overall blood circulation, which may facilitate better vascularisation of cancer cells. This improved perfusion potentially optimises chemotherapy's precision in targeting cancerous cells.
Exercise oncology extends beyond addressing treatment side effects; it also plays a pivotal role in post-operative shoulder and joint rehabilitation.
While the physical gains of exercising during cancer treatment are evident, the mental and social dimensions are equally crucial. Participating in a structured exercise program fosters a strong sense of community and support, contributing significantly to overall well-being.
A cancer diagnosis brings intense mental challenges. Patients face a rollercoaster of emotions dealing with new information, treatments, and the distress of the diagnosis itself. CanConquer exercise program plays a pivotal role in restoring control and moving patients forward.
Even after a gruelling chemotherapy session, the program offers guidance and patience to help patients gradually progress toward recovery. Many participants experience a noticeable transformation, standing taller, moving more freely, and cultivating a newfound sense of optimism after gym sessions.
Recognising the uniqueness of each patient's journey, CanConquer serves as a sanctuary where individuals can authentically embrace their feelings and experiences. It offers a safe space for nurturing emotional well-being and understanding.
CanConquer offers social groups engaging in outdoor activities such as group walks and stand-up paddleboarding. Coffee catch-ups and community engagement opportunities are also available. These interactions foster friendships and support systems through shared experiences.
Everyone, regardless of their cancer type or treatment history, can join in. It's inclusive for people of all ages, fitness abilities and mobility levels.
Chemotherapy brings its own set of side effects, which vary with different protocols and individual responses. Chemo is administered in cycles, mirroring how you might feel. We adapt your exercise program to your specific cycle, adjusting it to your symptoms and feelings, ensuring it's both effective and manageable.
Sustaining mobility is vital for circulation and muscle strength, even if you're not feeling your best initially. Our team is dedicated to supporting you through chemotherapy, emphasising the importance of consistent exercise for your well-being.
